The Asiago Plateau was a major Great War front. Preserved trenches, tunnels, and fortifications line the hiking trails. The Asiago Military Ossuary holds the remains of over 50,000 soldiers.
Germanic settlers arrived around the year 1000, leaving a living legacy in local place names, family nicknames, and the Cimbric language still spoken in Roana.
Every even-numbered September, the main piazza of medieval Marostica hosts a living chess match with human pieces in Renaissance costume.
